Can you sell Air Miles for cash? Not within the rules. AIR MILES, the Canadian program owned by BMO, became Blue Rewards on June 2, 2026, and its terms say a member “may not transfer, sell, exchange, give, charge or otherwise dispose of any Point” except on conditions Blue Rewards sets. The Points King does not buy AIR MILES or Blue Rewards points. The best cash-like value is about 0.67 cents a point (in Canadian dollars) as an in-store discount or eGift card, and if you also hold a program we do buy, such as Aeroplan, I list those below.
I am Joseph Hellman-Benjamin, and I have run The Points King since 2017. We buy miles and points, so I have an interest in this subject and you should read what follows with that in mind. There are no affiliate links on this site. Below I set out what the Blue Rewards terms say, what the points are worth in 2026, and the choices you have before you think about selling.

What Changed for AIR MILES in 2026
- January 2026: AIR MILES announced that Cash Miles and Dream Miles would be combined into one balance. The old Cash Miles rate was 95 Cash Miles for $10 off, with a cap of $750 a day.
- March and May 2026: Shell left the program for Scene+, in Alberta on March 2 and in the rest of Canada on May 25, according to Milesopedia.
- June 2, 2026: AIR MILES became Blue Rewards. Balances converted to Blue Points automatically. BMO’s official line is that there was no loss in value; Prince of Travel puts the conversion at 95 Cash Miles to 1,500 points, and Milesopedia uses 1 mile to 16 points, a figure it says was inferred rather than announced.
- Cards: the BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard became the BMO Blue Rewards World Elite Mastercard, with the annual fee rising from $120 to $150 (waived in the first year), according to Rewards Canada.
If you have not logged in since the change, your balance is now shown in Blue Points on the Blue Rewards website and app.
What the Blue Rewards Terms Say About Selling Points
I read the Blue Rewards terms and conditions on October 26, 2026. Four lines matter for anyone thinking of selling:
- A member “may not transfer, sell, exchange, give, charge or otherwise dispose of any Point” except under conditions and fees Blue Rewards sets.
- The program, the points and the certificates “are and will remain” the property of Blue Rewards, not the member.
- Points “have no cash, monetary or other value and cannot be converted into any currency.”
- If a member violates the terms or abuses the program, Blue Rewards may terminate the enrollment and cancel the points and rewards.
BMO’s separate credit card terms for Blue Rewards add that points earned on a personal card are not transferable to another account or card. Put together, a sale is a breach of the program rules, and the remedy the terms give Blue Rewards is to close the account and cancel what is in it. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice; the point is that the program does not allow it.
What Blue Rewards Points Are Worth in 2026
The fixed rate is the easiest place to start: 1,500 points buy $10 off at partners in store or a $10 eGift card, which is about 0.67 cents a point. Prince of Travel (October 2026), NerdWallet Canada (June 2026) and creditcardgenius (June 2026) all land on about 0.67 cents. Creditcardgenius puts travel and merchandise slightly lower, at about 0.63 cents, and events and attractions slightly higher, at about 0.73 cents.
In the old currency, that was roughly 10 to 10.5 cents per AIR MILE, which is why the numbers in older articles look so much bigger. The value did not change much; the number of units did.
The daily cap on in-store and eGift redemptions is $750, or 112,500 points, across both, according to Milesopedia.
What to Do With Air Miles: 5 Options
- Take them as cash off a purchase. In-store discounts and eGift cards from 80 or more brands, from 1,500 points. This is the closest thing to cash the program offers.
- Book travel. Blue Rewards Travel is powered by Expedia and has no minimum. Compare the cash price on the same booking before you use points.
- Give them to family. Accounts in the same household can be merged for free by phone. Gifting to another member costs $0.15 per 16 points plus tax, so gifting 1,500 points costs about $14, more than the $10 they are worth. Merges and gifts are final.
- Donate them. Milesopedia reports 7,500 points for a $50 donation.
- Keep the account alive. One small redemption or purchase every two years resets the 24-month inactivity clock.
Do Air Miles Expire?
Yes, in effect. Under the Blue Rewards terms, if no points are posted to or used from your account for 24 consecutive months, the points can be cancelled without notice or compensation. Quebec residents get a written notice 30 to 60 days ahead. Earning at a partner or redeeming once resets the clock.
Selling Air Miles to a Broker: the Risk
Some websites will offer to buy AIR MILES or Blue Rewards points. Before you answer one, know three things. The sale breaks the program terms. The program can cancel the points and close the account. And because points cannot be transferred to an unrelated member without going through Blue Rewards, a buyer usually needs access to your account to use them, which puts your account and personal data in a stranger’s hands. Our guide to the risks of selling miles and points covers this in more detail.
We Do Not Buy Air Miles: the Programs We Do Buy
The Points King does not buy or sell AIR MILES or Blue Rewards points, so please do not send a quote request for them. If you also hold a balance in one of these programs, we do buy it:
- Air Canada Aeroplan points, the program most Canadian flyers also hold
- Avios from British Airways and its sister programs
- United MileagePlus miles
- Delta SkyMiles
- American Express Membership Rewards points
The full lists are on the sell airline miles and sell points pages. The terms are the same for each: a minimum of 50,000 miles or points in most programs, the price agreed by email is the price paid, and payment is by PayPal. Selling any of these is against that program’s own terms too, so the risk section above applies to every one of them.
Air Miles FAQ
Does The Points King buy Air Miles?
No. We do not buy AIR MILES or Blue Rewards points. We do buy Aeroplan, Avios, United, Delta, American and several bank and hotel programs, with a minimum of 50,000 in most of them.
What happened to my AIR MILES?
They became Blue Points on June 2, 2026, when AIR MILES was renamed Blue Rewards. Your collector number became your member number, and Cash Miles and Dream Miles are now one balance.
How much are 1,000 Air Miles worth?
Under the old program, about $100 to $105 in rewards, at roughly 10 to 10.5 cents a mile. Converted to Blue Points, the same balance is worth about the same at the fixed rate of 1,500 points for $10.
Can I convert Air Miles to cash?
Not directly. The terms say points have no cash value and cannot be converted into currency. The closest option is an in-store discount or eGift card at about 0.67 cents a point.
Can I transfer Air Miles to another person?
Only through Blue Rewards, by phone. Merging accounts in the same household is free; gifting to another member costs $0.15 per 16 points plus tax.
Can I move Air Miles to Aeroplan or another airline?
No. Blue Points cannot be transferred out to airline programs. The only conversion in is from IHG One Rewards.
Where do I check my Air Miles balance?
On the Blue Rewards website or app, signed in with your member number, which is your old AIR MILES collector number.
