We Are a Broker, Not a Marketplace
The Points King makes money the same way any broker does: by buying miles and points from sellers at one price and reselling them, or holding and redeeming them, at a better one. We take on the points ourselves rather than matching a buyer and seller and stepping out of the deal. That spread between what we pay a seller and what a mile or point is ultimately worth to us is our primary, and effectively only, source of revenue.
How the Spread Works
Miles and points are not worth the same amount to every buyer. An airline mile’s value depends on which award flights it can book, current transfer bonuses, and demand from our own buyers at any given moment, so we do not publish one fixed rate that applies to every program at all times. What stays constant is the model: we quote a seller a price for their balance, and if they accept, we take ownership of those points. We profit if we can later redeem or resell that balance for more than we paid, and we carry the risk if program values shift before we do.
This is also why our quotes are competitive: because we are working with our own capital and our own risk on every purchase, we are motivated to price fairly and close quickly rather than sit on inventory.
No Affiliate or Referral Revenue
The Points King does not run affiliate or referral links. We do not earn a commission for sending you to a credit card issuer, airline, or travel site. Buying and selling miles and points directly, as described above, is the entirety of how this business makes money. Our Affiliate Disclosure page and Editorial Policy cover this in more detail, and we will update both pages if that ever changes.
What This Means for You
When you request a quote, the price we offer is the price we are putting our own money behind, not a marketing estimate. We would rather tell you plainly how that price gets set than leave you guessing why one broker’s offer differs from another’s. If you want to see how our rates and process compare to other mileage brokers, our honest broker comparison lays that out directly.
Questions about how a specific quote was priced are always welcome: email hello@thepointsking.com or call 1-866-367-5099.
A Note on Accuracy
We write this page in plain language so it is actually useful, not so it reads like a legal filing, but we would rather be upfront about its limits. Payment timing can vary by how quickly a customer completes their end of a transfer, and program rules and rates change over time. If anything here stops matching how we actually operate, tell us at hello@thepointsking.com and we will correct it. This page describes our business model; it is not a guarantee of a specific rate, payout time, or outcome for any individual transaction.
