This one is probably going to seem a bit obvious, but it needs to be stated anyways. The easiest way to prevent those miles from expiring is by simply flying with American Airlines or a partner airline.
When you fly with such airlines, you will earn miles and it will prevent your current miles from expiring. Just make sure that you are crediting the miles that you earn to your American Airlines frequent flyer account. In addition to this, make sure those miles are deposited before the ones already in there expire.
Sell Your Miles
If the American Airline miles are about to expire, then contact a miles broker and sell the miles immediately. Many brokers offer competitive rates for your extra miles and will send you the cash immediately, all with buyer protection.
Book A Future Flight
If your miles are about to expire and you are still too busy to take a trip that doesn’t mean that you have to let those miles expire. You can go ahead and book a future flight with the airline. The basic goal of this strategy is to spend those miles before they expire in order to reset the clock on their expiration date. When you buy an award ticket even if it is a year from now, the miles will be debited from your account.
Stay At A Hotel
Another great way to save those miles is by staying at a hotel. Even if it is just for one night, you will save those miles as long as you are staying at a hotel that is partnered with American Airlines. Such hotels include Best Western, Choice Hotels, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, Radisson, Starwood, and Wyndham.
